There is hardly anyone left who has not joined the computer age. The advances that have been made, especially in the field of medicine, have been impressive to say the least. Countryside Foot & Ankle is the only podiatric office on the West Coast of Florida to utilize this technology. The F-scan has achieved the same revolutionary status in the industry as other major computer imaging equipment such as CT scans and MRI's, making it the "Cadillac of gait analysis."
The test itself takes about 20 minutes and there is no pain associated with it at all. The appropriate sized insoles are fitted into the patient's shoes and then the Velcro cuffs, waist belt and cables are applied. The F-scan records the patient walking on an even surface for 4 to 6 seconds. The system shuts itself off automatically and begins to process the accumulated data. The data from the patient's gait cycle can then be used to analyze with more accuracy the patient's foot problem, thus increasing success of treatment.
The F-scan system of foot pressure analysis uses paper thin insoles (0.007 inch) each containing 960 sensors. The insole is flexible and can be quickly adapted to accommodate any shoe size or shape. The system operates in much the same manner as a video camera, displaying a 3-D color image of the patient's gait. There are 26 bones in the foot, all which have an optimum position to allow for proper function and synergy in the walking cycle. With the F-scan system the patient can actually see the display of their gait cycle, thus making them more aware of the causes of their foot problems.
Four main areas that have been advanced tremendously by the use of the F-Scan are:
